We started with a test strip...using a blade to cut the carpet. Under the carpet is padding and GLUE/ADHESIVE . Will it come up easily? Nope!
Peeling back the carpet wasn't difficult per-say. However, it took every ounce of pull and drag that we had! 
A game of pull and tug while the princess took care of the residue.
The remaining glue and padding has proven (as suspected) to be the real beast of this "simple" demo project! Details to follow...
